How to Make Your Own Patch
Required Tools and Materials
Patch sketch design
Embroidery program
Computer
Fabric
Sewing machine
Step 1
Choose the fabric. Heavy cotton, denim and other heavy types are recommended. These will last longer and not wear out.
Step 2
Sketch your patch design. Add as much detail as you want. Load this sketch into the embroidery software into the computer. Make adjustments to the size, color etc.
Save any big changes you make in case a power outage takes place. Make sure the design is what you want; you cannot make changes when it is in the sewing machine.
Step 3
Upload the finished sketch into the sewing machine.
Step 4
Fasten the fabric into the embroidery loop. Choose the desired settings. Put the fabric in the center and turn the machine on. The unit will stitch the patch according to your preferences.
Step 5
Take the loop off when the patch is finished. Remove the fabric. Examine it for any flaws or errors. Trim any excessive fabric you see.
Step 6
Begin sewing the patch onto the jacket.
Tips and Warnings
You can also iron the patch on. However, most motorcycle patches are sewn because they are constantly exposed to weather extremes. When you sew there is less chance of losing the patch.
Study the meanings of some patches on the Web. You could end up with a design that looks very similar to those of certain clubs. You could be mistaken for a member. Make your patch as original as possible.
How to Get Custom Biker Patches
Here are some tips on how to choose. Go to biker forums and ask which sites they can recommend. Next, check the cost. Some sites require minimum orders (i.e., you need to order at least four).
When you want to have a customized patch, you will be asked to submit your artwork in a form. Fill the form with all the required information.
Make your artwork as detailed as possible. Include the size, quantity etc. This will expedite the process. For custom rocker patches, you usually have the option of one or two colors. You can also choose the font type and color.
Tips
Some sites impose extra charges for sizes; others do not, so make your choice carefully. When asking for a price quote, provide as much information as possible. Specify the font, letter color, background color, border color etc.
If you need the items shipped to another country or continent, check the site policies, rules and what the costs are. You should have a look at a few sites to compare the costs.
Making or ordering a custom biker patch can be more time consuming. But for those who want to set themselves apart from the rest, this is the best option.
